What
Do I Make as a Teacher?
Author: Taylor Mali
You want to know what I make?
I make kids wonder.
I make them question.
I make them think critically.
I make them apologize and mean it.
I make them have respect and take responsibility for
their actions.
I teach them to write, and then I make them practice
every day.
I make them read...A LOT!
I make them show all of their work in math and hide
all of it when they write final drafts in writing
workshop.
I make them experience music and art and the joy in
performance, so their lives are rich, full of kindness
and culture, and they take pride in
themselves and their accomplishments.
I make my classroom a place where all of my students
feel safe and welcome.
I make them understand that if they use the gifts
that they are given, work hard, and follow their hearts,
then they can succeed in life.
You want to know what
I make?
- I make a difference!
