Project
TIDES
Ortona Elementary is one of five schools in Volusia County to
implement an innovative technology program. Students will use
Ipod touches and Macbooks to reinforce classroom concepts while
creating podcasts and videocasts to share with other schools.
Lessons will focus on math and science integration.
Monarch
Teacher Network
The Monarch Teacher Network is a network of teachers who use Monarch
butterflies to teach key concepts and skills through the butterfly
life cycle. Students will explore eggs, caterpillars, and butterflies.
Many Ortona teachers attended training over the summer and are
excited to bring this opportunity to our students.
O.R.E.O.
Project 2011 (Our Really Exciting Online Project)
Students will stack the original oreo® cookie and count how
many oreos® they can stack before the oreos® tumble! We
will then average our results to come up with a class total and
then share our results with classrooms throughout the country.
If your classroom would like to join this fun & creative learning
project then please contact Jennifer Wagner at projectsbyjen.com
Gingerbread
Man Exchange 2011
Our class will participate in a gingerbread exchange with classes
from all over the United States. Each student will create their
own gingerbread man and decorate the front anyway they want. On
the back, students will include pictures with various state symbols
to illustrate why one would visit Florida.
Students will receive mail from other students telling about their
states.
The
Gingerbread Man Exchange is currently closed to any new participants.
The Gingerbread Man Exchange has reached capacity. If you are
interested in participating in next year's exchange, please email
me directly in mid June to secure your spot.
